I was curious how the new Pelikan Edelstein Rose Quartz compared to the PenBBS ink of the same name so I did a side-by-side swatch. They are very different inks for sure! โœ’๏ธ

Tomorrow I run at the Run For Their Lives 5k for Florida SPCA.

I’ve been focusing on running again recently. I’ve ran a few 5ks around the neighborhood this year but this will be my first official race.

Plus I get to hang out with dogs at this event. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Currently Inked -- 09-15-2023

I haven’t done a currently inked in a while!

This is a good one. I attended the Orlando Pen Show last weekend. I had a blast.

I also bought five pens, and won a giveaway pen as well! The beautiful Omas Ogiva Orlando Pen Show 2023 limited edition pen. It’s only one of 23 ever made.

I wish I had taken a few more pictures while at the show. I met several local pen fans and some folks I’ve met on social media.

Enjoy! โœ’๏ธ

This week I have three “knock off” or “clone” pens from Jinhao.

The Jinhao x159 is a nice copy of the Montblanc 149. Of course it’s not like the real thing, but a good pen nonetheless.

Then there’s the Jinhao 80. I bought two. From the outside they look exactly like the Lamy 2000 (see comparison) but the internals and nibs are totally different.

Still, they are fun pens. I enjoy this lineup. ๐Ÿ–‹

Happy fountain pen day!

I haven’t posted on here for a while, but I couldn’t miss fountain pen day. Here are five pens in my rotation right now. ๐Ÿ–‹

Currently inked: 9-23-2022

This is what I’ve been using the past week.

I haven’t updated my currently inked in a while. Some of these pens come from my trip to the Orlando Pen Show earlier this month, which was a lot of fun. ๐Ÿ–‹

Leaving in a few minutes for the Orlando Pen Show! Hope to see some of you there this weekend. I hope to get some photos and update here. ๐Ÿ–‹

Sad to hear of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

I will ink up and use my Parker 51 this weekend, purported to be one of her favorite pens.

Ultem week ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ–‹

Currently inked: 8-19-2022

These are five pens I used this week.

My kids went back to school, and I spent most of my days working and what not, so I didnโ€™t write much this week.

These pens helped make a slow writing week fun anyway. ๐Ÿ–‹

This week I’m trying out my three PenBBS calligraphy nibs. I’ve added some lines to show off their line variation. (My favorite of the three is the No. 2.) ๐Ÿ–‹

I missed last week. Work and life got in the way.

Pens and inks used for August 12, 2022.

I’m back after a much needed vacation!

I wrote a little bit on my trip but not much.

Still the same pens. I haven’t inked anything else up in over a month. And that’s OK! ๐Ÿ–‹

Going with the same set of pens this week.

I’m heading out tonight for a week’s vacation! And this is what I’m bringing.

I’m risking some ink sloshing with that Schon DSGN Ultem pen, which is eyedroppered, and in the photo you can see some ink splotches in the cap already. ๐Ÿ–‹

I won’t have a currently inked posted next week since I’ll be on vacation.

The Medium Is the Menace by Andrey Mir, City-Journal.org

A phoneโ€™s digital memory remembers phone numbers for us, but it cuts off the part of our organic memory responsible for basic recall. Machines do many things much more efficiently than people once did, but they atrophy bodily functions, disrupting not only the preexisting sensorium but also old physical skills and social habits. Ubiquitous digital media, with their new reward system, threaten even more troubling changes.

A reminder of the effects of media use and technology on our daily lives. The article is worth a full read.

I Donโ€™t Want to See a High School Football Coach Praying at the 50-Yard Line by Anne Lamott

It offends me to see sanctimonious public prayer in any circumstance โ€” but a coach holding his players hostage while an audience watches his piety makes my skin crawl.

Prayer means talking to God, or to the great universal spirit, a.k.a. Gus, or to Not Me. Prayer connects us umbilically to a spirit both outside and within us, who hears and answers. Is it like the comedian Flip Wilson saying, โ€œIโ€™m gonna pray now; anyone want anything?โ€

Amen, Anne Lamott. Amen.

This week I inked up two new pens and cleaned a few that had been in rotation for a while.

I realized while putting this post together that all of my currently inked pens are high capacity or eyedropper filled. I guess I won’t run out of ink any time soon.

Next week we leave for a cruise, and I don’t know which of these pens I’ll bring with me. I’ll put together a “travel edition” currently inked.

Francis and the Lights, Farewell, Starlite! ๐ŸŽต

I’ve listened to a few tracks from this album in the past but I’ve never listened to the album all the way through. Highly recommended!

Good album for today’s work:

This week Iโ€™ve added my Narwhal Schuylkill to the mix.

This is the first time I know of when I donโ€™t have any blue or blue black inks in the mix.

Iโ€™m looking forward to a brief break from work this weekend. Hopefully I find time to write! ๐Ÿ–‹

Pens and paper.

The Guardian: “January 6 committee schedules surprise session to hear new evidence”

Hutchinson has provided the committee with some of its most shocking revelations, including that Trump approved of his supporters chanting โ€œHang Mike Penceโ€ and that several far-right members of Congress who had attempted to stop the congressional certification of Joe Bidenโ€™s victory sought pardons after the attack. The disclosures emerged during Hutchinsonโ€™s closed-door testimony to the committee, videos of which have been played during the hearings.

I’ll be watching today. It’s so crucial we get to the bottom of what happened, who was involved, and bring those who need it to justice.

Traitors.

“Bob Dylan’s notebooks,” Notebook Stories

The collection includes a variety of artifacts, including Bob Dylanโ€™s notebook shown below, in which he made notes for lyrics, many of which evolved into the final version known in his songs.

I’d love to see these.

This week I’m still rotating through pens I’ve had inked up this month. I’ve been out and about more this month, so I don’t need to keep all of these inked up. I’ll cut back a bit in July, I think.

Fountain pens.

This is awful. Let's help each other.

The recent SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has me in a dark place today.

I feel stuck, like, what can I do? The only thing I know to do for now: I’m here for anyone who needs someone to talk to, lend support, point in the right direction, vent … anything.

You can reply to this on Micro.blog, or if you don’t have an account with them, reply via email. See the links below this post.

All I know is that this decision is a radical one, a group of so-called Christians who stomp on the rights of women because they believe the lie that abortion is murder. It is not.

One great resource is the Anti-Racism Daily post from today. I strongly recommend subscribing to that newsletter. These issues affect us all.

Good morning! Two campground cats have found their way to us. ๐Ÿ•
